The Department of Mathematics started functioning in the year 1994. The Department offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics. Academic activities of the Department apart from teaching and research include activities like organizing Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, Refresher Courses, Winter Schools programs, etc. for serving teachers and students. The Departmental Library is sponsored by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (DAE), Mumbai. The Department is also sponsored by UGC (SAP) and DST (FIST). The academic programs are managed by a competent core faculty and backed by updated syllabi and a computer laboratory.

The Department of Physics started its functioning in 1996. The Department offers a four Semester M. Sc. programme (Two years duration) where the students at present can opt for one of the two specializations: i. Astrophysics and ii. Condensed Matter Physics, with laboratory classes. Research areas that are covered at present include: Astrophysics, Particle Physics, Cosmology, Chemical Physics (with application to biomolecules), Atmospheric Physics. The Department possesses several sophisticated instruments, including 16 inch Mead Telescope, 14-inch Celestron Telescope, Astronomical CCD, Photometer, Ellipsometer, FTIR, and UV visible spectrophotometer. The Department also has a cluster computing facility.

The Jawaharlal Nehru School of Management Studies, Assam University (JNSMS-AU) started functioning in July 1997.The mission of JNSMS-AU is to contribute through innovative academic endeavors pertaining to teaching, research, consultancy and training to the process of developing capable managerial and human resources and thereby to the corporate, industrial, economic, social, intellectual and cultural development of India. To accomplish its mission, JNSMS-AU offers through the Department of Business Administration full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme and also research programme in Management leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D). Admission to MBA programmes is through CAT and is open to candidates having sound previous academic background.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences under the Sushruta School of Medical and Paramedical Sciences started its journey in August 2010 with the introduction of four years (eight semesters) Bachelor Degree course in Pharmacy (B. Pharm). The primary objective of the Department is to develop programs relevant to current global standards and challenges of pharmaceutical education and research in order to provide trained technical manpower in the field of Pharmacy primarily for the Southern Part of North East India. The Department started functioning with a full-fledged B. Pharm course from the academic session 2011-12. In due course of time, the Department will also introduce Post Graduate and Ph.D courses.
Head: Prof. Mahuya Sengupta
The Department of Biotechnology, Assam University, Silchar offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in Biotechnology. The Master’s Degree programme of the department was started in July 2004, and is of two-year duration. The National Education Policy (NEP) was adopted from December 2022 onwards. Core courses such as Biological Chemistry, Microbiology and Virology, Immunology, Molecular Biology and Genetics and advanced courses on Genetic Engineering, Biochemical Engineering and Cell Technologies, Molecular Immunology and Immunotechnology are covered, along with Value-Based and Community Engagement Courses. M.Sc. 3rd and 4th semester students also undertake a short-term research project towards the completion of the programme.
